Number Two: Okay, as defined in wikipedia "jungle" itself isn't derogatory when applied to some music http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldschool_jungle. Why is it that if I say "nigger" around a black guy, he's pissed? If I say "cracker" around a white chick, she doesn't know what it is? Same with "limey" around limeys. I say "mick" to my irish friends and they say "hell yeah". I call a gay guy "fag", and if I know him he laughs and buys me a beer, but if I don't know him he thinks I'm a fucking nazi or something. I call an Indian "Punjab" and he says, "no, I'm not from there," and he's right cause he's talking geography. I call a Sunni muslim "raghead" and he gets mad, but I call a Sikh raghead he laughs and says "Yeah, I am. Need to clean up a spill?" I call a Mexican guy a spic and he gets mad. If I call him Hispanic, he's fine with that, even though he isn't. If I call a Spaniard hispanic, he looks at me like I'm nuts, even though he is. I call a Klansman "fucker" he wants to vote me into office. I've got an Irish Catholic buddy who gets mad if I say "Jew" in a conversation, but I've got another buddy who's a second-generation holocaust survivor and tells jews-in-the-ashtray jokes. Why hell do people make such a big goddamned issue out of whatever fucking color they are, or where their ancestors are from? If you live in a free society, appreciate that. Guys sitting around drinking beer call each other "motherfucker," etc. Why should racial slurs be any different? Juts another way to give people hell. They shouldn't be loaded terms. Your ancestors went through hell and came out intact. Friend of mine is a Croatian exile who fled Yugoslav communism under Tito, and one night a black fellow tried to tell him that my friend owed him monetary restitution.
My friend happened to have had ancestors enslaved and shot much more recently than the American black guy.
Whatever you think of race relations, think about what is still happening elsewhere, and the think about just how oppressed you are. |
